Fumigation for Large Warehouses and Commercial Storage Facilities
The location of Beiras on the East Coast of Africa makes it a huge service facility run by Cornelder. It services the DRC, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and the Mozambican interior and is commonly known as the Beira Corridor. There are numerous storage and warehouse facilities in the Beira area which include the Beira Grain Terminal, CIM and Capital Foods. The Manica warehouse complex are responsible for the handling of fertilisers, processed foods and general cargo in transit for domestic use.
All these facilities have problems associated with storage. Rodents are a particular problem because of the semi-permanent marshes that surround the city. FIM is involved with many of these establishments in formulating comprehensive and long term pest control programmes.
The Manica Warehouses were the first to introduce a comprehensive pheromone trapping system in their rice and general foodstuff facilities, which gives early warning of rising weevil numbers and the receiving of infested stock. Again, we have seen a great improvement in the standards of hygiene in these facilities, thanks to the co-operation of FIM as well as the various company management teams. The Beira Port, the port authority, Cornelder and their various partners have realised that in order to compete globally, they have to provide safe, hygienic storage facilities.
FIM offers all perspective clients a comprehensive survey of their facilities, to be treated either on a once-off basis, or to determine the cost of a long-term fumigation programme to eradicate pests and continually improving hygiene.
